Do you heat with your home with electricity and receive your electrical service from OTEC? If so, you may be able to benefit from another great OTEC rebate. They have a new rebate program that offers $6 per square foot of replaced glazing area. We had a customer recently who received a rebate of close to $500! In addition to the OTEC rebate, you could save serious cash on your electrical bill every month by replacing old, drafty windows with new ones. Want to learn more? See the flyer from OTEC below and then come see us at Cashway. We would love to help you find the best window solution for your home.
This month, we will be focusing on electrical systems here on the blog. To transition from plumbing to electrical, we wanted to let you know about a great way to save some money. Did you know that the electrical company will reward you for upgrading to an energy-efficient water heater? Not only will you save money by using less electricity each month, but OTEC will actually give you a $100 rebate when you purchase a qualifying water heater. In the store, we carry a 50-gallon electrical water heater from Rheem's professional series which qualifies for OTEC's rebate program. To learn more about this product, visit Rheem's website here. This is a great way to update your home, be a little kinder to the environment, and save money!

If you have a garbage disposal, chances are that you will have to deal with a clogged drain at one point or another. Its amazing how much havoc a few too many potato peels can cause. When you come to that awful realization that your garbage disposal is running but the water level in your sink is only getting higher, don't panic. No need to call a plumber-hopefully you can take care of it on your own in just a few minutes.
Start by clearing the area under your garbage disposal and placing a shallow pan or cookie sheet under the drain to catch the water that comes out. It's also a good idea to have an old towel around to wipe up any spills. Unplug or turn off the garbage disposal so that you can work around it safely.
Once you are set up, start by taking apart the sections of your drain right above the goose neck (that curvy pipe you can see at the very bottom in this picture). The arrows in the picture below are pointing to the places you should unscrew. You should be able to do this by hand. The T-shaped fitting is often where you will find your clog. If you don't find it there, look in the gooseneck or in the pipe leading into the garbage disposal.
Hopefully, you found the culprit in one of these pipe connections. This may be stating the obvious, but do not put those potato peels or whatever else is causing your problem back down the drain. That could put you right back where you started. The garbage or perhaps the toilet is where those belong.
Almost done! Put your pipes back together, tightening the connections as tightly as you can comfortably do by hand. Plug your garbage disposal in, turn on the water, and then start up the disposal. Everything should be moving again. Check all of the connections to see if anything is leaking. If you see any leaks, try tightening the fitting a little more. If it is still leaking, you may need to replace the washer in the connection, which is a simple fix.
There you have it! Don't you feel accomplished?
Of course, some plumbing problems are a little beyond the skills of the do-it-your-selfer. In these cases, it is always best to call in a professional.
Need a new garbage disposal? We can help you with that too! Come down to Cashway and check out or selection of Insinkerator garbage disposals.
